challenge switcharoo again [31 May 2006|01:17am]

Yup, here I go again with being a couple days off, but anyway, here it is.

First, as to captain of the week details. Captain Kirk gets the honors this time, so break out the... uh... Romulan ale? :)

Second, as to the challenge. Last week's is officially closed, and here's the new one. the challenge is this:

Do with it what you will, take it however you will. This one's given in honor of the amazing gorgeous weather we've got here--90+ Fahrenheit and humid, and I know I'm weird for loving it. :)

And as always, enjoy!

Title: Storms
Captain: Kirk
Characters/Pairings: McCoy, Chekov
Author’s Notes/Disclaimer: Rated PG, no warnings

Rain pelted the ground outside the shelter of the cave. Weary, McCoy tried to mend members of the away team injured by natives, with Chekov as his make-shift nurse. Working on a fallen lieutenant, the doctor frowned at injuries that required treatment in sickbay. But the ship’s malfunctioning transporter would give them no reprieve.

Pressure held on a bleeding wound, the Russian’s eyes bored into his, beseeching on behalf of a friend. McCoy regarded the ensign, his face betraying none of his doubts. He was no miracle worker. He was a doctor. Today, he hoped that this would be enough.

challenges and ties [18 May 2006|12:13am]

[ mood | sore ]

Yup, I know this is off as far as posting date goes, sorry about that. Hopefully it's not a big huge deal? We can let this next challenge run until Sunday May 28, if people want.

First of all, however: To captain of the week details. Oh, my! What's this? A four-way tie! Archer, Janeway, Sisko and Picard all got one point a piece this week. I don't think that's ever happened before... has it?

As to challenge details, let's do the switcharoo thingie. The nightmares challenge is officially closed, and here's what follows it. The challenge is this:

Do with it what you will, take it however you want to. Nothing's too out there or too absurd. One hundred words gets your captain of choice a point in yonder ever-running ongoing tally thingie, four-way ties and all. :) Enjoy!

Trek Drabble: Nightmares [06 May 2006|12:06pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

Title: nightmares
Captain: Archer
Characters/Pairings: T'Pol
Author's Notes/Disclaimer:

Since becoming a member of the crew of Enterprise, T’Pol had to get use to many different, illogical things.

The last couple of nights when T’Pol retired for the evening, she had found herself dreaming.

That night, the dream talked to T’Pol. He said his name was Darcy. He found her interesting.

Before she went on duty that day, she looked up the name Darcy. Found the name in a couple of places, but mostly it had to do with a character from a book written in 18th century Earth.

T’Pol found this to be very illogical and a nightmare.

Title: nightmares
Captain: Janeway
Characters/Pairings: Voyager crew

The bridge was empty save for the hum of unmanned machinery, toiling without the need for human guidance, enhanced by an amalgamation of advances gleaned from their journey - the natural blending of Starfleet's medical AI programs, Borg circuitry and future technology.  The result was a Federation vessel crewed by holographic programs.  They commanded the ship, made decisions.  They sealed off unused sections, shut down life support, conserving energy.  They protected the ship and her lone human occupant - fragile, lined face still elegant.

The Doctor placed soup on the table in front of her.

"Time to eat, Kathryn," he said gently.

Title: nightmares
Captain: Picard
Characters/Pairings: Picard
Author's Notes/Disclaimer:

He woke, chilled and sweating, the voices he heard in every corner of the darkened room...

He gasped, forcing graphic, leftover images from his mind

the cold, bloodlessness of death in space,

devoid of colour  - except the reds...

Accusing open-eyed stares of the dead

broken ships full of damaged bodies...

The sheets tangled around his legs and arms, imprisoning him

suffocating him as he fought loose

fought to regain his freedom

to regain himself...

His throat was raw, he panted, struggled to breathe...

The room was too small

thousand of minds intruding into his own

worst possible [05 May 2006|06:40pm]

[ mood | iffy ]

Now that my finals have given me a weekend's break--whew! I've had time to scribble a bit. Forgive how dark this one is, I've been dealing with some nightmares myself and I guess this is a bleedthrough.

Title: Worst Possible
Author: Chanter
Captain: Sisko
Series: TOS
Characters/pairings: Tamura-Rand
Rating: PG13 for suggested violence and darkness
Summary: Janice has an extremely bad night, with Mariko as both reason and remedy.

Methinks another challenge is in order - hopefully chanter_greenie won't mind if I step in and toss one out - even if it is a bit off-kilter schedule-wise -

new challenge [19 Apr 2006|06:36am]

[ mood | thoughtful ]

I know, I'm slow, school has gone bananas so I'm late posting this again. Sorry all...

But here it is. First, as to captain of the week details. The score was Picard 2 and Riker one, so everybody order the tea from the replicator or just brew it the old-fashioned way, and raise a mug to Captain Picard!

Mmmm, mint tea. :)

Anyway. As to challenge details, the last one is officially closed and this week's is now open. The challenge is this:

Take it however you will, do with it whatever you will. This can be anything you want, from a conversation in a hallway to random comm traffic to someone hearing things. Nothing is too out there or too mundane. Enjoy!

And as for that three-way tie, I think it's going to stay one.

Ol' Blue Eyes [09 Apr 2006|02:19pm]

[ mood | tired ]

Title: Ol’ Blue Eyes
Captain: Picard
Characters: Riker & friends
Challenge: Singing
Notes: I imagine this taking place in a high-tech 24th century Alaskan garage…

“Sha doo! Bee bop! Bee! Bop!” Will’s face scrunched up as he scatted. His broadening shoulders swayed with the swinging beat.

A startling cymbal crash stopped his crooning. A few stray notes escaped from other instruments and the garage was silent.

Will turned and raised one eyebrow quizzically.

“This is… it’s not you, you know.” The drummer glanced nervously at the other band members. “We just don’t want you in our band anymore. You just…can’t sing.”

“Guys, I…” Will blushed, hurt. Then an idea struck. “Fine, I’ll do something else,” he said commandingly. “I’ve always wanted to try the trombone.”

Title: With all due apologies to Joss Whedon
Captain: Riker (since Riker is a captain now, I think he should be able to get points, too!!  How about it for the Riker love???
Characters: Riker/oafc* (*original alien female character)
Author's Notes:  Oh, gawds, I SO apologize for this..........I couldn't help it, I was taking a shower and you know how bad things ALWAYS hit fanfic writers when they're taking a shower.........

(to the tune of the "Parking Ticket Song" from the BtVS musical episode, "Once More, With Feeling"

The lithesome Melodian shook a barrette from her long, silvery mane of hair and reclined languidly against the flat rock just in front of where Riker was scanning for trilithium.

"I've been thinking in a bad, bad way
Come on, won't you put that PADD away
I'm asking you please stay
It's your beard, and all that hair
No other manly men anywhere
I think that lithium isn't there
Why can't you let it go?
I think I've done more than my share
I'm horny and alien, don't you care?
Hey, I'm not wearing underwear."

Riker's PADD hit the dirt.

Title: Okay - you asked for it......
Captain: Picard
Characters: Picard, Riker
Author's Notes:  Remember, chanter_greenie, this was your idea!!!!!

"I'm not sure you understand our position," Jean-Luc tried again.  The Federation needed to secure mining rights to Melodia. "Time is strictly of the essence  - "

"You're so unkind,
We hear you fine,
And we invite
Your crew tonight
To join us all and dine."

The delegate's voice was clearly unsuited to the acappella invitation.

"So please say yes,
For I confess,
I dearly want
Our world to flaunt,
And show you round our town."

Turning away from the Melodians, Picard grimaced to Riker, carefully keeping his expression out of sight of their hosts.

"Some days I hate first contacts!"

challenge switcharoo [09 Apr 2006|01:11am]

[ mood | fic scribbly ]

Yup, it's that time again. time to change the challenge!

But first, captain of the week details. What an amazing turnout! Yay for an active comm! It ended up...
Archer 1
Picard 2
Sisko 2
Janeway 2

Oh dear, it's a three-way tie! so I'm going to go off of what's been done in the past and saying that the first person who posts a drabble for one of those three captains using this past week's challenge wins the week's honors for the commander of their choice. And it won't be me who posts it, because that wouldn't be fair.

As for the new challenge, here we go! The tie-split aside, as after it's been sorted *then* this past week's challenge will officially close. But beyond that, the new challenge is this:

Do with it what you will, take it however you want to--is a character listening to music, or singing something of their own or even *wishing* they could sing when in reality they couldn't carry a tune in one of the whale tanks from the Voyage Home? Nothing's too out there. One hundred words gets your commander of choice a point in yonder ever-running tally thingie! And as always, enjoy!

Title:  Vicissitude
Captain: Picard again
Characters: Picard, Q
Author's Notes:  A sequel........

The Ready Room door slid closed behind Q as he followed Picard off the bridge and away from curious eyes.

"Did your counterpart have anything to do with bringing me here?" Picard stormed.

"My counterpart?"

"In my universe!"

"The Mirror Universe is well documented.  I can only assume the Q from my universe sent me here - return me at once!" Picard exploded, already frustrated and unwilling to play at Q's word games.

"Why not?!"

"Because you wound me, Jean-Luc.  I'm unique, one-of-a-kind; how insulting that you think there could be another me," Q pouted.

Title:  Daemon
Captain: Can we give points to Q?  He played a captain once.....  If not, then Picard
Characters: Picard, Q
Author's Notes:  Dear Tommy, I love you do you love me? Check yes or no.

"Q!" Picard snarled at the omni-being, crossing the lower bridge in long strides.

"Jean-Luc," Q purred, "it's been too long.  You've changed - "  Q circled him  " - should've kept the goatee, made you look as if you actually have character..."

"Why have you brought me here," Picard demanded.

Key members of the bridge crew raised suspicious brows at his words.

"Brought you...." comprehension replaced confusion as Q realized who he was speaking to - or rather, who he wasn't.  "Isn't this delicious," he smiled predatorily.  "How ever did you find your way here - and what have you done with this Universe's Picard?"

Prompt:  mirror universe [04 Apr 2006|07:25pm]

Title:  Through the looking glass.....
Captain: To Archer go the spoils...as it should be
Characters/Pairings: Hoshi
Author's Notes:  C Major and D Flat

Deliciously silky sheets drifted across her mostly bare skin in whispery caresses as she stretched wantonly in the Captain's still-warm bed.  She felt free, unconstrained by all the murmurs of who she should be, what she should've done  - all the suggestions, the hints...the hisses.  She'd escaped the scared little girl afraid to make the leap into space, into the unknown, afraid to join an away team, to go on a mission...

She had no idea how she'd gotten here but Hoshi was certain she belonged here, to this place - this universe.

And she was never going back...

Unrecorded Events [01 Apr 2006|10:26pm]

Author: Senepa
Captain: Janeway
Characters: Garak and Bashir
Prompt: Mirror universe
Notes: Sorry this is so bad. I don't have much experience with drabbles.

As is often the case, an accident sent them to the mirror universe. Bashir, who fancied himself a spy, was snooping about when he stumbled upon the device. Garak, who really was a spy, had been watching all this with wry amusement. The beam caught them both.

Garak was horrified to meet his double; an incompetent fool, who’d somehow kept the rank Garak had lost. Bashir was intrigued.

“What do you suppose would happen if I were to kill him?” Garak asked his friend.
“Best not to find out.” Bashir replied.

Later, Garak erased the entire incident from Bashir’s log.

a challenge! wow! [01 Apr 2006|07:18pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

My recent scarcity is at an end. I've decided to post a challenge out there again and see what happens. Here goes... The challenge is this:

the mirror universe

Take it how you will, do with it what you will. Is a character reflecting on experiences on the other side of the looking glass, has someone from one side crossed over and is now thrown for a loop? Maybe somebody's longing to go. Nothing's too out there. As quoted from vagablonde, "Once more, with feeling."

This challenge will run until Sunday, April 9.
